Activities Committee met 01/23/04 in 5-105; turn out was low so the new activities suggested at the FACC chapter planning retreat were not added to the calendar. Candy Gram sales, Fri, Feb 13, 9:00-11:00 a.m. 304 have been pre-sold. Volunteers needed to distribute to buildings. Financial report will come at next meeting. Thanks go to Joan Cosma’s student assistants, Diana Ryon, Casey Kirchoff and the deliverers for all their help. The next fund raiser will be the April 7th and 8th Plant Sale chaired by Cara Bennett and Lindsey Dedow. Volunteers are needed for the Plant Sale!

Carole Bartholomew, Mac Dismuke, and Kimberley Smith were there to talk to the judges about FACC and its mission. Legislative Updates
Mac Dismuke and Carole Bartholomew went to the FACC Leadership seminar in Tallahssee; Harry Albertson, Executive Director of FACC, presented a PowerPoint on the 2003-2004 AY. Main points:
- FTE growth has gone up 28% since 1999 and 7.6% from just last AY year;
- FACC is hoping that unmatched funds will be brought up-to-date;
- PECO funds which go toward capital improvements may go down because those funds are raised from telephone taxes which are going down (no one is using phone-booths anymore…);
- Community colleges are behind in being funded for FTE while universities and K-12 are already being funded for the future. One in 20 Florida RESIDENTS are enrolled in COMMUNITY COLLEGES;
- Student fees are expected to go up, but we don’t know the numbers yet and don’t know how many students we may have to turn away again;
There will be letter-writing campaigns again this year and we will keep members apprised.
Contact Mac Dismuke if you want a copy of the PowerPoint presentation to view.
