Honors

Community of Scholars

As honors program participants, students automatically are members of the Honors Institute, which is devoted to the recognition and enhancement of the academic achievement of CF scholars. Many members become eligible for scholarships through the Community of Scholars.

The Honors Institute includes the prestigious Community of Scholars program and the coordination of major scholarship programs for students.

The Community of Scholars offers diverse opportunities for students to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom. Throughout the academic year, field trips are scheduled to provide educational exposure to a variety of social and cultural activities and events. Field trips for members in recent years have included touring Walt Disney World’s Epcot Theme Park, Busch Gardens, the Kennedy Space Center, the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, the Florida Aquarium, and several museums, historical sites, and attractions in St. Augustine. Admission fees on these field trips are covered by the honors program and travel is arranged using college vans.

Many students in the Community of Scholars participate in state and regional conferences that are developed by the Florida Collegiate Honors Council and the Southeastern Regional Honors Council. In addition, service learning opportunities are available to students in several honors courses and through participation in wide variety of campus activities and community service events that enhance their collegiate educational experience.

Other membership benefits include:

  • possible scholarships
  • the privilege of registering for classes on the first day of availability
  • free membership shirts
  • honors program medallions and certificates
  • graduation with honors distinction
  • service learning activities
  • access to honors courses that provide for an exciting, interactive learning experience
  • student leadership opportunities
