Diversity and Inclusion Committee
The committee was established to cultivate a climate that values diversity, equity, inclusion and justice; act as a resource for all collegewide cross-cultural programs; support collegewide diversity, equity, inclusion training initiatives; and develop a diversity plan that is aligned with the College’s strategic plan.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee is a cross functional team made up of representatives from students, faculty, career and professional staff and administrators.

In August 2020, President Henningsen and Vice President Ramsammy delivered the charge to the committee. Working in collaboration with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion – Title IX Coordinator, the Diversity and Inclusion committee began a structured process to identify strategic goals and objectives for the diversity plan. The planning process is currently underway with an anticipated completion during the Fall 2021 semester.
What is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972. This law protects individuals from discrimination based on sex, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” 20 U.S.C. § 1681 & 34 C.F.R. Part 106
Supportive Measures are actions taken by the college to ensure equal access to its education programs and activities during the process of reporting, investigation, and/or resolution of a complaint. Supportive Measures vary based on student or employee needs at the time.

Dr. Mary Ann Begley serves as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion/Title IX Coordinator. In her work she focuses on the development and implementation of collegewide diversity goals and objectives in collaboration with the college’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
